A booklet on world poverty, prepared by the the Department for International Development (DFID) in collaboration with the MCB and its affiliates Islamic Relief and Muslim Aid was launched in the Commons on Wednesday January 16th 2002. The Chief Guest Rt. Hon. Clare Short MP, Secretary of State for International Development, addressed a gathering that included MPs, representatives of Muslim organisations and other invited guests. Islamic Relief mounted an impressive exhibition and distributed an information pack that included a multimedia CD highlighting the plight of 180,000 Chechen refugees.
